PETITION MOVEMENT:

The petitions will range from simple letter petitions to local and
national public officials, to administrative and legislative
action, all the way to taking judicial action. The kind of action
may range from simple individual actions to collective actions. The
petitions will push forward climate change responses that need to
be urgently taken to 1) mitigate the impacts of climate change and
2) make us better able to adapt to its impacts. These responses may
include:

a. Shift in Energy Generation from fossil fuel-based to Renewable
Energy

b. Reform the transportation system to multi-modal, mass-transport
based system.

c. Strengthen Fisheries and Agriculture to ensure food security

d. Ensure disaster preparedness especially in coastal and hazard
prone areas.

e. Climate proofing of buildings and infrastructure and many, many
more.

The petitions will be signed by voters and filed in respective
local governments around the Philippines. According to the Law
(Sections 120-127, Rep. Act 7160) only 1000 signatures are required
to be able to lodge a petition in the Local Governments. The local
governments will have 30 days to act on it. Notices to sue will be
filed upon failure of LGUs to take action. The same agenda will
then be lodged in the COMMELEC for referendum and included among
the items to be voted on the 2010 elections.
